In Azerbaijan, tea is far more than a beverage — it is the ultimate gesture of welcome and a vital part of daily life. Whether at a business meeting or a family gathering, sharing a cup is the primary way to build and maintain social ties.
The armudu glass tea is traditionally served with tea freshly brewed and hot in unique pear-shaped glasses called armudu.
This distinct shape is functional as well as beautiful: it keeps the tea hot at the bottom while allowing it to cool slightly at the rim to make drinking more comfortable.
Tea is typically served with lemon slices and an array of sweets, dried fruits, and fruit jams.
In some regions, locals even add spices such as cinnamon, ginger, or thyme to create a unique flavour profile.
