19 march 2026

On March 19, a tree-planting campaign was held in Mushfigabad, Baku, organized by the WUF13 Azerbaijan Operations Company and the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan, with the aim of promoting environmental initiatives.

Adil Mammadov, Executive Director of the WUF13 Azerbaijan Operations Company, and Rustam Hasanov, Adviser to the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, as well as employees of the WUF13 Azerbaijan Operations Company and volunteers, took part in the campaign. Representatives of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources briefed participants on proper tree-planting techniques.

Marking 21 March, the International Day of Forests, the campaign aimed to support efforts to preserve ecological balance and promote greening, while also drawing attention to ongoing work on sustainable urban development and climate change.

As part of the campaign, 625 Eldar pine (Pinus eldarica) and olive trees, generally well suited to the soil and climate conditions of the Absheron Peninsula, were planted. It is worth noting that a total of 5,000 trees are planned to be planted as part of WUF13.

As a reminder, the thirteenth session of the World Urban Forum will take place in Baku from 17 to 22 May 2026. Dedicated to the development of sustainable cities, this prestigious event serves as a key international platform for global dialogue and cooperation on urban planning, environmental protection, and climate resilience.
