WUF13 Preparations Continue with Media Tour to “Tamiz Shahar” OJSC

16 march 2026

On 16 March 2026, a media tour of the operational facilities of “Tamiz Shahar” OJSC was organised for media representatives as part of preparations for the thirteenth session of the United Nations World Urban Forum (WUF13). The visit provided members of the media with a closer look at the modern approaches being applied to waste management in Baku, including recycling processes and sustainable urban management practices.

As part of the tour, participants first visited the Municipal Solid Waste Segregation Plant of “Tamiz Shahar” OJSC, where they were introduced to the waste segregation process and a display area featuring valuable items recovered from the waste stream. Media representatives also had the opportunity to observe the waste segregation process first-hand. Participants later visited Balakhani Industrial Park and the Baku Waste-to-Energy Plant, where they were introduced to recycling processes and the generation of electricity from waste incineration.

The media tour was conducted with the participation of representatives from the WUF13 Azerbaijan Operations Company, “Tamiz Shahar” OJSC and the Institution of Communal Services of Baku Executive Power. During the visit, participants were briefed on the measures being implemented for waste management during WUF13, and their questions were addressed.

It is worth noting that the Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) signed between the WUF13 Azerbaijan Operations Company and “Tamiz Shahar” OJSC makes a strategic contribution to the sustainable delivery of WUF13. The agreement supports efforts to reduce carbon emissions, minimise waste and increase recycling rates, while also promoting resource efficiency and advancing the circular economy.

As preparations gather pace for the thirteenth session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), due to be held at the Baku Olympic Stadium from 17 to 22 May 2026, a series of briefing sessions for media representatives is under way.
