“Omid, the Last White Crane” Theatre Play and Discussion "How Urbanization and Ecology Affect Nature"
Nani Zhgenti Project | Architecture & Interior Design - YARAT Contemporary Art Space
“Omid, the Last White Crane” is a poetic theatre performance presented within the framework of Baku Urban Week and the Azerbaijan Urban Campaign. Based on a true story, it follows Omid, the last known Siberian crane of the western population, whose solitary migration reflects the fragile connection between ecosystems and human development.
Through live music and expressive staging, the performance transforms a real ecological narrative into a symbolic meditation on loss, continuity, and responsibility. It highlights how urban expansion, industrial growth, and climate change disrupt migratory routes and threaten biodiversity.
Hosted at YARAT Contemporary Art Centre — a repurposed industrial site — the event also demonstrates the value of adaptive reuse in shaping sustainable and culturally vibrant cities. The performance invites audiences to reflect on the relationship between urban spaces, ecological memory, and the future we choose to build.
